Articulating the views of the community to inform retail developers

Client

Cityco, Manchester's city centre management company with a remit to make the city a more engaging and accessible place to visit and in which to do business, use mruk to gauge customer opinion on the merits of Manchester city centre for issues such as safety, security, accessibility and cleanliness.

Outcome

Our on-going local research since 2005 has allowed our client to get real insight into how people view Cityco were provided with a set of actionable and meaningful recommendations as to how the customer experience could be improved. Results from previous waves of the research were also included in the report so that Cityco could track changes over time. This allowed CityCo to modify their policy and practice in terms of town centre planning and guidelines for providing services.

Method

Face to face in street interviews were administered in 5 locations - 3 in the City centre, and 2 other locations – one in South Manchester (Altrincham) and one in North Manchester (Oldham).

800 interviews are conducted in total, sample numbers are kept the same in order to allow comparability with previous surveys and obtain more robust responses from the five locations. Quotas were applied to interviews by location, time of interview and purpose of visit.
